Horizon Zero Dawn – From PlayStation to PC

Horizon Zero Dawn (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1151640/Horizon_Zero_Dawn_Complete_Edition/) was a game that I wanted to play for a while but the initial reviews were a bit negative. This game had a few bugs when it launched on Steam. Recently saw that the game was on sale and the reviews on steam were largely positive and hence picked it up.

The game is beautiful. The environment is absolutely stunning and breath taking. The premise is that the protagonist, Aloy, is in the world where our current civilization has been wiped out and the humanity has gone back ages tech wise. Also, the world is full of machines that are hostile towards humans who pass by.

The story is quite captivating. It keeps you engaged with the primary mission and a host of secondary ones as well. I didn’t indulge too much into the secondary missions, to be honest. Also, I played in “Story” mode, which is apparently one level easier than the “Easy” mode. So didn’t really need to grind a lot to get Aloy to be good.

The dialogues are good, the visuals are stunning and the game play is nice. One thing I would have loved to be a bit better is the combat. I don’t know if it was just me but the melee combat is a bit cumbersome. I could not find a way to lock onto individual enemies. Aloy just keeps jumping around. May be it was just me but couldn’t complain more than that.

A really good reason everyone is excited about this game is because it is a PlayStation game that is now available on PC. Usually ported games are full of bugs and glitches. This too was in the beginning, apparently but the team did an excellent job patching things up and I found no issues whatsoever with the game in it’s current form. Sure there was some frame freezes and random loading screens but I think that is probably more to do with my 7-8 year old PC hardware than the game itself. 🙂 What everyone is hoping for is that other, more popular PlayStation titles too get ported to PC. I too am really hoping that happens and I get to play God Of War on PC. 😀 Fingers crossed.

My Steam page for the game, post completing the main story:

Do get the game if you want to play a stunning game. If your PC is powerful, I think you might enjoy this even more. There is a New + game mode that lets you play with all the acquired skills in a new game. Want to try that out sometime myself. 🙂 Good luck and enjoy the game.
